There was no instalove guys...now THAT makes me swoon.
Krestrel is the seventeen-year-old daughter of General Trajan. Her only options in life is to marry someone soon or to join the military for her strategy skills are quite incomparable. One day, she goes of to the market and buys a slave named Arin for a ridiculously high price. But Arin isn't who she thinks he is. He's a spy and everything goes wrong when they both fall in love with each other.
Krestrel is a hell of a strong character. SHE USES HER HEAD!!!She knows how to put her feelings aside for the better of a country. She still finds a way to manipulate people even if all her friends are dead in order to survive. She DOES things. She doesn't say things. Geez, I feel like I've been waiting for this book my whole life.
Arin was such a well developed character. He is flawed yet to damn lovable. His character really grows on you even if you know that he's betraying Kestrel.
The world building actually made sense. I was hooked up from the beginning 'til the end and the writing was absolutely beautiful.
"I see things quite clearly." She began to walk to meet her father, in whose eyes, she had, at last, done something to make him proud.
"You don't," Arin said.
She pretended not to hear him.
"You don't, Kestrel, even though the god of lies loves you"
My favorite book this year.
