When Jean's parents decided to move to Japan, they thought it would be a good thing to send Jean into the TIPS, a school made for people with special powers. The only problem is, Jean has no powers. Her parents know it, her brothers know it and Spider, a Fey acquaintance, knows it. Not wanting to dishonor her mother that happens to be one of the best Spell teachers at TIPS, Jean has to use normal human magic to try to fit in. But when a mysterious palace door randomly appears in front of the school and Jean successfully opens the door accidentally, she is suspected to have the Queen's Gift. Threatened by the Assembly and many of her school friends, Jean has to find a way to get of of the mess that she's involuntarily created.
What I didn't like about this book was that from the moment the palace doors appeared, it became vary apparent how the book would end. It too predictable and for that, I took off a star. Also, are you telling me that with all those Fey in that school, no one noticed that she had no powers? Seriously?
What I liked was the fact that Jean found Michael very hot and didn't end up with him in the end. I'm glad that this wasn't one of those instalovy books where characters make out after two chapters. It was more like some simple teenage hormones kicking in and you know what? It happens. At least she still kept her head and didn't turn into a crazy obsessive girl filled with lustful thoughts. That's pretty good considering the amount of instalove you find in books these days.
I also really enjoyed Spider. He isn't perfect and handsome and gorgeous. He's just a normal teen that's going through a phase but he's really nice when you get to know him. The characters are very realistic and down-to-earth.
This book was surprisingly enjoyable and reads easily.
I liked it a lot. :)
